Physician-Led Care vs. an Ordinary Med Spa
A med spa delivers aesthetic treatments under a medical license, often with the supervising physician off-site. A physician-led practice means the physician evaluates you, designs the plan, and stays accountable for how it performs. Both models can deliver good work. The difference shows up in who is thinking about your case, and what happens when your skin does something unexpected.
Med spas are not the problem
Palm Beach County has excellent med spas staffed by skilled providers who do careful work, and PBCM is itself a med spa in the ordinary sense of the word. Plenty of patients are served perfectly well by that model: a straightforward concern, healthy skin, a device applied competently. Nothing about this page is an argument that those practices are careless.
What we want to describe is the narrower question of when medical depth changes the outcome, because patients rarely get a candid answer to it. The honest version is that it does not always. It matters most when your concern has an internal component, when your skin type carries real risk with energy-based devices, or when previous treatment has already underperformed for reasons nobody explained.

What an endocrinologist brings to aesthetic medicine
Endocrinology is the study of the signaling systems that govern growth, repair, metabolism, and hair and skin biology. That happens to overlap with a surprising share of aesthetic complaints. Hair thinning is often a thyroid or ferritin story. Coarse facial hair in a woman is usually an androgen story. Adult acne along the jawline frequently is too. Skin that will not tighten after significant weight loss is a collagen and metabolic story. Slow healing after a laser session can be a clue about something systemic.
None of that means every patient needs lab work. It means the person designing your plan can recognize when the surface is reporting something deeper and can act on it in the same visit.
The decisions that carry actual risk
Wavelength and skin type
Treating Fitzpatrick types IV through VI with the wrong wavelength or fluence risks burns and long-lasting pigment change. Our Candela GentleMax Pro Plus carries both 755 nm and 1064 nm for this reason, and the choice is made deliberately for each patient.
Medication interactions
Photosensitizing medications, recent isotretinoin, and certainnutracéuticos cambian qué es seguro hacer este mes. This is a history question, and it needs someone who knows what to ask.
Sequencing
Resurfacing inflamed skin, or stacking two aggressive modalities too closely, tends to extend recovery rather than accelerate results. The order of a plan is a clinical decision.
Knowing when to decline
Sometimes the right answer is to postpone a treatment or not offer it at all. A practice that never says no is telling you something about how it makes decisions.

Fair questions about the difference
- What is the difference between a med spa and a physician-led practice?
- A med spa delivers aesthetic treatments under a medical license, often with the supervising physician off-site. A physician-led practice means the physician evaluates you, designs the plan, and remains accountable for it. Both can be excellent; the difference shows up in how the plan is built and who adjusts it when your skin responds unexpectedly.
- Does an endocrinologist-led practice change what treatments I get?
- Sometimes it changes the order more than the list. Skin and hair concerns often have thyroid, androgen, insulin, or cortisol contributors. Recognizing one of those first can spare a patient a series of treatments that would have been undone by an unaddressed internal driver.
- ¿Es más costoso un consultorio dirigido por médicos?
- No necesariamente. Su médica le explica el plan completo y el costo en la consulta, antes de reservar. Hay opciones de pagos mensuales a través de Cherry. Los planes se elaboran en la consulta, con opciones de paquetes y membresías.
- Who performs the treatments at PBCM?
- Treatments are performed by our clinical team under the direct supervision of Dr. Anna Frisch, MD, PhD, who reviews the plan, the device settings appropriate to your skin type, and your progress between sessions.
- What should I ask any aesthetic practice before booking?
- Ask who wrote your plan and whether that person will see you again, which device and wavelength will be used on your skin type, what happens if you react poorly, and whether anything about your medical history changes the approach. Clear answers are a good sign anywhere you go.
- ¿Ofrecen inyectables?
No ofrecemos rellenos dérmicos voluminizadores.
- How do I start?
